RAMPS 1.4 Arduino Super Shield 3D Printer Controller Board is specifically designed for the purpose of using pololu stepper driven board (similar to 4988 driven board). According to ramps 1.4 wiring diagram, it can only run when attached to its Mega 2560 and 4988 / DRV8825 motherboards. Thanks to its operational reliability and great compatibility with most 3D printers (all reprap-models such as i2 and i3 pursa). The mixture of Ramps1.4 + MEGA2560 + A4988 / DRV8825 is becoming the mainstream control board for DIY 3D printers. Ramps 1.4 pinout indicates that I2C and SPI pins are left available for future expansion. MOSFET 3 MOSFET are apply to the heater/ fan and thermistor circuit in ramps 1.4 connections.
